In the mid-1980s, several members of Trinity Lutheran Church began a loosely organized golf outing as time for fellowship for its golfing members.  By the mid-1990s the outing had evolved into a tournament, but one that still focused on member fellowship and friends.  In those early days the winning foursome also won the right to host the next year’s tournament.

Jacque Saul, as host of the tournament in 1999 , chose to name the tournament in the honor of Ralph Gabrielson, a valued friend and golfer who had passed away that year.  Ralph’s family and friends continue to participate in and organize the tournament since then. In 2011, the tournament organizers chose to make it a charity tournament, with the proceeds to benefit ‘Lutheranch for Kids’.  The tournament raised $ 3,000 (plus $ 650 matching funds by Thrivent) – and with each year ongoing, with your participation, we want to exceed this level of giving.

Each year the event is hosted by the members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lilburn, GA. All proceeds from this tournament are donated to Lutheranch, an ELCA affiliated campground and retreat center.

Tom - Masters_smallWith great sadness we acknowledge the passing this year of Tom Davis, a key member of the Ralph Gabrielson Memorial Golf Committee. Without Tom’s guidance and faithful service, our tournament would not have happened. Tom combined two of his passions in his service to this event: youth and golf. Tom saw this tournament as a means to create for youth, of all ages, a retreat center here in Georgia that will serve thousands in the years to come. His calm presence and wisdom will be deeply missed on our committee and at this event. Our prayers are with his family and friends. May they know the comfort of God’s promises and find joy in wonderful memories.
